Why should you do exercise testing before starting an exercise program

Although Exercise Testing is a great way to start an exercises program there are some situations when its best avoided or performed under supervision.

Here are the contraindications to fitness testing.

Contraindications for Exercise Testing

Symptom wise stay away from testing if you have any shortness of breath, chest pain, chest tightness or if you are in pain.
 

Absolute Contraindications - Top 5 list

Absolute means that under no conditions should you undergo exercise testing.

  1. A history Recent Heart Attack, also called Myocardial Infarction.
  2. Any heart related disease including but not limited to Aortic Stenosis, Unstable Angina, Pericarditis or any thromboembolic disease.
  3. Severe Infections and Fever.
  4. Severe Illness of any kind
  5. Severe emotional distress.

Relative Contraindications - Top 5 list

These are less threatening conditions but still danger enough warranting a supervision.

  1. Previous history of heart Illness
  2. Any Skeletal or Neuromuscular disorders, back problems etc
  3. High Blood Pressure.
  4. Liver Diseases
  5. Advanced Pregnancy.
