Examples of High quality Carbs & proteins
High quality carbohydrates are carbohydrates that should be able to provide enough energy without causing a significant rise in blood sugar levels also known as the glycemic index. High quality carbohydrates will include typically fruits and vegetables, oatmeal and whole grains.
High quality proteins are found in foods that are rich in proteins but low in the amounts of saturated fats and cholesterol. Such foods include both plant sources; Green beans, peanuts, lentils and animal sources of high quality protein include fish, skinned chicken and prawns. It must be known that the plant sources of protein are far healthier than those from animal sources as most of the animal sources will still have some amount of cholesterol and some fats.
The importance of high quality carbohydrates in diet
High quality carbohydrates play several important roles for health. They provide the antioxidants necessary for mopping up excess free radicals in the body that
may be damaging to health if left unchecked.
They also keep the state glucose level of the blood in a steady state because of the low amounts of glucose that they contain. Therefore they do not readily increase the levels of glucose in the body as less complex carbohydrates will do, and therefore the liver is not overworked to produce insulin to control the level of sugar in the blood.
The other aspect in the equation is that when the glucose levels in the blood is high above what is required of the body; the excess is stored in the body and may become converted and stored in the liver and the muscles. High quality carbohydrates prevent this from happening by providing just the quantitative that are needed for immediate use.
High quality carbohydrates also have a high fiber content that takes a long time to digest and as such increases the metabolism of the body as the body uses more energy to digest them. This reaction is very useful for weight loss as excess fat is burned to fuel the digestion of the fibers.
Importance of high quality proteins in dietThe importance of eating high quality proteins is because they greatly reduce the risk of heart disease by their low levels of cholesterol and fats. Eating high quality proteins also aids in weight loss because they are more difficult to digest and thus need more energy to digest than other foods. High quality proteins are also useful for building new muscular tissues, and also for replacing old tissues.
